Our service to Cape Verde
Azores Airlines has two flights a week to Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, from Ponta Delgada and Boston. Book your flight on www.azoresairlines.pt.
Santiago, Cape Verde
Santiago is the largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago and home to half the nation’s population.
The temperatures are warm throughout the year, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy both the beaches and the Atlantic.
Besides the beaches, the island has mountains, hills and ravines to hike and explore.
Fresh fish and seafood are easy to find in any restaurant on the island, as well as “cachupa,” a traditional dish that is a slow cooked stew of corn, beans, cassava, sweet potato, fish or meat.
Places to explore:
Old Town
Cidade Velha was once the capital of the island and was also called Ribeira Grande. It was the first city built by the Portuguese in Africa. Now it is an historic city, known for its architecture and archeology. It is said that both Vasco da Gama and Christopher Columbus came here.
Praia
This city is filled with Cape Verde’s good energy and with colorful houses, bars and restaurants where you can try traditional Cape Verdean cuisine.
Take a walk around the city overlooking the sea, and visit the shops and restaurants in the Achada de Santo António neighborhood, then tour the bay, where sandy beaches Quebra Canela and Praínha are not far off.
Sucupira Market
The picturesque market is the perfect place to shop and feel the atmosphere of the locals, and listen to African music, like Cape Verde’s famous Morna.
Tarrafal Beach
Is considered the most beautiful beach of Cabo Verde, with its white sand and crystal clear water.
