In the last two weeks, SATA Air Açores' air operation has re-adapted to the urgent needs of the Archipelago of the Azores.
In addition to the procedures adopted to mitigate the risks of contagion and spread of the COVID-19 disease, both among employees and passengers, the carrier rapidly converted one of its Dash Q200 equipment into a combi cargo version, to increase the cargo capacity of these aircraft that serve the nine islands of the Archipelago without limitations.
As a result of this adaptation, the Dash Q200 now offers availability for shipment of 1608 kg of cargo: an increase in capacity of approximately 65%. The combi version has made it possible to retain 29 passenger seats, although due to circumstances and the need to safeguard the social distance of passengers, only 11 cabin seats are available.
At the end of next week, the carrier plans to increase freight capacity, should the need arise, by bringing online a second Dash Q200 which could be converted into a Combi version should this need be identified.
In the last week, SATA Air Açores has ensured the transport of necessities, hospital equipment, surgical equipment, and urgent cargo. It has also ensured the transport of cases of force majeure, in response to requests from the Regional Health Directorate.
The air carrier has performed a daily circular flight, which leaves Ponta Delgada around 6:50 a.m. and returns at the end of the day at 8:45 p.m.
